Year 6

Year 6

Hello and welcome to Year 6 Class. Thank you for taking the time to look at all the exciting things we get up to! Our team includes: Mrs Howle is the Year 6 teacher. She is also the English and Music lead. Her favourite subject to teach is English; she particularly loves classic literature and grammar. In her spare time, she loves to walk her dogs and read but not at the same time!

Mrs Williams is the teaching assistant in Year 6.

In her spare time, she likes to read true crime stories and she also produces some wonderful cakes.

St Christopher Class

Our Class Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for surrounding us with Your love and keeping us safe in Your care.
Help us to be patient and to persevere when life becomes challenging.

Teach us to be honest and to treat everyone we meet with kindness and respect.
Give us the strength to forgive ourselves and others when mistakes are made.

Show us how to be generous with our time, our love, and the gifts You have given us.

As we journey through Year 6, may we be blessed to walk in Your light, inspired by the example of St Christopher and guided by our mission to Believe, Succeed and Soar.

   Amen

Reading at home

In Year 6, reading is at the heart of our curriculum. We encourage pupils to develop a love of reading by exploring a wide range of high-quality texts, including classic and contemporary fiction, poetry, non-fiction and plays. Through whole class reading sessions, class novels and independent reading opportunities, children deepen their understanding of vocabulary, inference, prediction and authorial intent. We promote thoughtful discussion about books, helping pupils to justify their opinions using evidence from the text. As confident and enthusiastic readers, our Year 6 pupils are well prepared for the challenges of secondary school and develop a lifelong appreciation of literature.
